EXCERPTS

The young witch Eva has a deep friendship with the mysterious creature, the Schrat. While Eva is sad about having death-bringing magic powers, the Schrat can make plants grow and wounds heal. After a few wondrous moments, Eva realizes that the Schrat and her long-lost brother Simon have mysterious similarities.
The director's cut is a much shorter version of the original cut, which had a running time of 30 minutes. Three years after completing the film, I was able to look at all the material from a distance and felt that, for me, the focus was more on the sibling relationship than on Eva's fate as a witch. The persecution and execution of witches, which had originally been the main plot line, now only takes place on the side.
